Frequently Asked Questions
Does a doula replace my husband or partner?
Not at all. A doula is there to support both you and your partner. Your partner knows and loves you in a way no doula can, while I bring knowledge of labor, birth, comfort techniques, and the birth environment. We work together as a team so your partner can be involved in whatever way feels most natural and comfortable.
Can I have a doula if I plan to get an epidural?
Absolutely. Support doesn't end when you receive an epidural. I can continue helping with positioning, comfort, rest, communication, partner support, and preparing for pushing and birth.
Is a doula the same as a midwife?
No. Midwives are medical providers who are responsible for the health and safety of you and your baby. A doula does not perform clinical tasks, diagnose conditions, or make medical decisions. My focus is on continuous physical, emotional, and informational support.
When should I hire a doula?
You can reach out at any point during pregnancy. Many families choose their doula during the second trimester, but there is no perfect time. Earlier booking simply gives us more time to build a relationship and prepare together.
Do you only support unmedicated births?
No. Doula support can be valuable with many different types of births, including unmedicated births, epidurals, inductions, and planned or unexpected Cesarean births. There is no single "right" way to give birth. My goal is to support you through your individual experience.
When will you join me during labor?
When you feel you need additional support, we will decide together when it is time for me to join you. I remain with you throughout active labor and birth, typically into the first golden hour following birth.
